L'Hivernal du Crozet begins beneath the Grande Porte, the historic entrance to Le Crozet, a medieval village in the Loire department of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. This winter trail race offers three distances: 8 km, 15 km, and 28 km. It starts in the morning, targeting runners seeking a cold-weather run on forest trails instead of pavement.
All courses briefly traverse the village before ascending to the hills surrounding Le Crozet and entering the Loire forests. The 8 km route combines trail and road with 200 m of elevation gain, featuring small climbs and more flowing sections. The longer distances extend the challenge, with the 28 km presented as the most demanding option. The location provides specific historical context: the Grande Porte is part of a fortified enclosure dating back to 1236, and clear days offer views across the Roanne plain towards the Morvan and Lyonnais mountains. Agence Week&sport organizes the event with the local festival committee and the commune. Participants may consider a post-race visit to nearby Roanne, particularly the Halles Diderot food market.
