La Corrida du Vieux-Port is a 5 km road race in Marseille, held in late December around the city’s Old Port. It begins at 5 PM in front of Marseille City Hall, giving it an early-evening, end-of-year atmosphere rather than the pace of a typical morning race. Organized by SMUC, it is listed on the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur running calendar as a short, festive event after Christmas and before New Year’s resolutions take hold.
The course consists of two laps around the Vieux-Port area, with participants running along Quai du Port and Rue de la République. Most of the race remains near the harbor, making the route contained, central, and easy for spectators to watch. Costumes are a key element; it is a dressed-up race, and a costume contest is open to all. The participants are therefore not solely focused on a fast 5 km; it also attracts those seeking a playful run through one of Marseille’s most recognizable public spaces at the close of the holiday season.
