La France en Courant is a 2,650 km road relay race across France, run each summer as a city-to-city stage race over approximately two weeks. Teams compete in relays, not as solo ultrarunners, with the format incorporating urban sections, natural landscapes, night running, and daily stages.
Each team consists of eight relay runners, including at least one woman. Past editions have required teams to cover approximately 180 to 190 km daily. The route varies by edition, having passed through over 350 stage towns, and future courses may feature mountain passes. Each host town establishes a race village offering music, entertainment, local products, and craft displays. The event originated with France’s bakers’ confederation, leading to the bread joke in its slogan, and it has held French Athletics Federation certification since 1992.
