La Landsberg sends runners onto cold late-November trails around Barr, in the Pays de Barr and Mont Sainte-Odile area of Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France. It is an annual trail race offering three distances: a short 9 km option with 350 m of elevation gain, a middle route of 15 to 17 km with around 600 m, and a long route in the mid-20 km range with close to 900 to 1,000 m of climbing.
The race utilizes natural trails and many narrow single-track paths through vineyards, forests, and local heritage sites like the pagan wall of Saint-Odile. The organizers design a new course each year, and the routes remain unannounced, offering no opportunity to scout them in advance, requiring runners to adapt to the terrain as they encounter it. Barr is a small village with minimal tourism, and the weather can add to the challenge, with temperatures potentially near freezing and the possibility of rain.
