A glass of bourru, the young local wine, awaits at the finish of La Thomas Boudat in Mourens, a village in Gironde wine country. The October event is based at Château de Viaut and includes several ways to move: road cycling, mountain biking, gravel riding, timed trail running, and walking. The VTT rides begin at 9:00 AM, with 25 km and 40 km options that include enough climbing to feel like a real ride rather than a flat vineyard roll. Trail runners can choose 10 km, 18 km, or 25 km, while walkers have 6 km, 10 km, and 15 km routes.
The courses utilize the Bordeaux vineyard setting around Mourens and Thomas Boudat’s family domain, with sweet and savory aid stations along the way. One stop is at Château de la Benauge, where participants may find an orchestra as well as food and drink. The day is open to serious athletes, club riders, casual hikers, families, and people coming for the domaine visit as much as the effort. The trail races are timed, with podium awards for the top three men and women on each distance, but the local wine traditions give the event its own personality: early registrants receive a bottle, everyone can enter a draw for a Magnum of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, and tastings, local food, and children’s activities continue on site.
