Racers start after dark at 7 p.m. for La Verte à l'envers, a ski touring and ski mountaineering race in Les Houches. The event is organized by the École militaire de haute montagne, giving it a mountain-sport feel rather than a resort fun run. Participants can enter alone or in pairs, including men's, women's, and mixed duos; the format allows less experienced ski tourers to try night racing.
The route climbs the Kandahar slope with 870 meters of positive elevation gain. The objective is simple: go uphill on skis, then handle a steep section with a carry through the woods. One edition drew 240 competitors, with good snow and moonlight aiding the ascent. At the finish, racers receive a meal, changing rooms, toilets, prizes, and a prize draw, making the evening a complete local mountain event rather than just a timed climb.
