Les Courses des Casemates is a February trail running series held in Dangolsheim, Bas-Rhin, France. Participants can select from two off-road distances: a 13 km course or a longer route of approximately 24-25 km. The longer option includes up to about 900 meters of elevation gain. This event is not a simple village run; its challenge stems from numerous ascents and descents, with winter conditions potentially increasing the difficulty of the terrain and the effort required.
The courses guide runners through the vineyards and natural surroundings of Dangolsheim, connecting the race to the local landscape instead of urban streets. The series is named after casemates, a form of fortification, incorporating a local military history element. The Associations des Courses des Casemates organizes the event, offering practical amenities such as on-site food and bag check. The event's ethos emphasizes good humor, conviviality, and appreciating the day alongside the physical challenge.
