The Marathon d'Avignon, a new road marathon in Avignon, France's Vaucluse department, is scheduled for its first running in September. This event establishes an urban marathon for the City of Popes, offering both full marathon and half-marathon distances.
The course begins at Gare Centre and concludes on Ile de la Barthelasse. Organizers describe the route as sufficiently fast for runners aiming for a strong performance. Participants will pass historic Avignon landmarks, such as the Palais des Papes and the Pont d'Avignon, bringing a marathon to streets historically associated with the former papal seat and its renowned bridge. Christophe De Cecco and Bertrand Delhomme, organizers of the Mont-Ventoux Kookabarra half marathon, are leading this event. The race also features an official collection of eco-responsible T-shirts and accessories in its signature colors.
