The Marathon des Vins de la Côte Chalonnaise is a March running weekend held in Givry, near Chalon-sur-Saône in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. While the weather can still be frosty, the program offers a wide range of distances: 8 km, 12 km, a half marathon, a full 42.195 km marathon, a three-person Mara3 option, and children’s races. Approximately 6,000 runners participate annually, with larger events attracting close to 8,000 runners and thousands of spectators.
Saturday features races winding through wine villages and communes including Givry, Mercurey, Rully, Fontaines, Dracy-le-Fort, and Aluze. The marathon's food-and-wine focus is central; runners refer to it as “the best table in France for 42 km.” The weekend emphasizes local gastronomy, Côte Chalonnaise wines, heritage, and community support. Sunday shifts focus to the Randonnée du Marathon in Buxy, an open hike with 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, and 20 km options, where volunteers manage aid stations, provide encouragement, and assist with race operations.
