The Marche nordique des 2 Salines is the Nordic walking event held as part of the Trail des 2 Salines, an October event based in Arc-et-Senans in the Doubs. Its unique feature is the route, which connects two historic salt sites: the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains and the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The courses traverse the Jura and Doubs regions, passing through the Furieuse, Loue, and Doubs river valleys. Participants can select from various trail distances, a relay race, or children's races, and a specific format is available for Nordic walkers. The path follows ancient salt routes, once used by smugglers and the Gabelous, the customs officers tasked with their pursuit. This weekend event encourages visits to both saltworks, deeply connecting the race to the region's history beyond its name.
