Monbazitrail is a spring trail race weekend in the Dordogne, in southwest France, offering 20 km and 12 km options. Both races begin and end at the Château de Monbazillac, overlooking the Dordogne valley and Bergerac.
The route is almost entirely off-road, with approximately 95 percent on trails through vineyards and forest. Runners will also navigate cliff faces and cross a river, making the race a test of varied Dordogne terrain rather than road speed. The château setting provides local character, including an opportunity to sample Monbazillac sweet wine post-run. Alan Barry, an Irish orienteer and mountain runner who relocated to the Dordogne and manages Domaine de Cournet-Haut, organizes these race weekends, including transport to the château, a post-race lunch, home-cooked meals, and optional valley sightseeing.
