Raid ESSEC EY is a student-organized multisport race held around Cergy-Pontoise, located about 30 km north of Paris. Organized by ESSEC Business School students since 2012, it is open to the public, not exclusively students. The main raid is conducted in pairs, with teams alternating between trail running, mountain biking, run-bike sections, orienteering, and occasionally canoe segments. The primary events are the 75 km Raidoutable and the 38 km Raidvigorant. The preceding evening features a Night Race with 10 km and 15 km routes, suitable for those seeking a shorter race or a consecutive challenge.
The courses traverse Cergy and the nearby Val-d’Oise countryside, incorporating forests, farm tracks, valleys, waterways, and the Parc Naturel Régional du Vexin Français. The Night Race route includes the Cergy ponds, the village of Ham, and a climb up the Axe Majeur, offering a high vantage point over the city. The event attracts experienced endurance athletes, amateurs, younger participants, and teams seeking a collaborative challenge, as navigation and teamwork are as crucial as speed. Its student origins are evident in the format: practical, energetic, and centered on effort, mutual support, and engagement with the natural surroundings of Cergy.
