Rotary Trail de Beaune opens the running season early with a winter trail event on the Montagne de Beaune in Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Organized by the Rotary Club of Beaune for almost ten years, it is known locally as the first nature race of the year in the department. The format includes an 8.5 km walk in the morning, followed by three trail races in the afternoon: 8.5 km, 14.5 km, and 25 km. The shortest race is a genuine trail effort, while the 14.5 km and 25 km routes involve more climbing, with the longest reaching approximately 600 m of elevation gain.
The start and finish are at la Montagnarde, on allée des Mondes Rondes, above Beaune. The courses traverse terrain between vineyards and forest, offering participants a post-holiday challenge instead of a flat road run. Winter conditions can make the race demanding, and organizers caution that the terrain may be difficult. The event attracts walkers, short-distance trail runners, and longer-distance runners on the same day, with several hundred participants across all distances. Entry fees fund Rotary Club of Beaune projects; recent causes have included support for paratriathlete Thibaut Rigadeau and the establishment of a Café Joyeux in Dijon.
