Saint Jean By Night is a timed night run in Saint-Jean-Veyle, a commune in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Runners choose from three evening distances: about 6.5 km, 12 km, or 16 km, with every race starting and finishing at the L’ESCALE sports hall. The 16 km race starts first, followed by the 6.5 km Express race and then the 12 km, so the event progresses through the evening under headlamps and streetlights.
The routes use the small roads and paths around Saint-Jean-Veyle rather than a closed city loop. The 6.5 km option is a short circuit with one small climb and no major difficulty, while the 12 km route changes from edition to edition and the 16 km is the XL night course. The race draws a strong local field for its size, with more than 700 participants at a recent edition and an 800-bib limit. Cadet-age runners can enter the shorter races, while the XL is reserved for juniors and older runners.
