Saumurban Trail takes runners and walkers through Saumur, France, in early March, using the town itself as part of the race. Organized by the CAPS Saumur athletics club, it is an urban trail weekend featuring running races, a walk, and children’s races, attracting both trail runners and those seeking a shorter outing. The program includes routes of approximately 10 km, 20 km, and 30 km, with sufficient elevation gain to resemble a true trail race instead of a flat city run.
The courses connect Saumur’s streets with vineyards, hillsides, wooded paths, chateaux, caves, and views across the Loire Valley. of its draw is access: runners pass through heritage sites and private properties not typically open to the public. Recent editions have hosted thousands of runners and walkers, giving the event the atmosphere of a community race supported by the entire town, rather than a small, specialized trail gathering.
