The Trail de l'Odon begins in Baron-sur-Odon, a village near Caen in Calvados, Normandy, directing runners toward the Odon river instead of keeping them on forest paths. It typically takes place in early autumn, offering main race options of approximately 10 km, 20 km, and a Marath'Odon distance that balances trail running with marathon effort. The shorter race employs two start waves, while the longer distances provide seasoned runners with a more challenging, hilly course. The Marath'Odon and 20 km races offer participants a chance to earn UTMB points.
The loop courses trace the Odon, feature river crossings, ascend local hills, and descend into nearby villages like Tourville-sur-Odon and Mouen. Youth races are available for younger participants, with benjamins and minimes competing on short lap courses within the Bois de Baron. The Association du Trail du Bois de Baron-sur-Odon organizes the event, maintaining an environmentally conscious approach by not providing cardboard cups. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds is donated to the Centre Francois-Baclesse.
