The Trail de la Michaille begins near Valserhône, in the Châtillon-en-Michaille area of Ain, directing runners to the Retord plateau above the town. This spring trail race offers two individual options: a 12 km discovery route with approximately 370 m of elevation gain and a 32 km Trail XS with about 1,000 m of climbing. The shorter race is designed for those new to mountain trail running, providing a substantial climb and a two-hour time limit without the commitment of a full-day event.
The routes are approximately 90% on trails, making it a true trail experience rather than a road race with some off-road sections. The Retord plateau is situated between the Jura and the Alps, offering views of the Mont Blanc range from clear vantage points. The 12 km race qualifies for the Ain races challenge and the Haut-Rhône challenge, and has previously drawn around 200 participants. Race headquarters are at the Salle des Fêtes des Etournelles, where bibs can be collected before the event and on race morning, with on-site registration available for the walk.
