Trail de Pérouges begins at the base of the medieval hilltop town of Pérouges, located in the Ain department of eastern France, in early March. The primary event is a short trail run of approximately 12.3 kilometers, featuring around 200 to 240 meters of elevation gain, positioning it as a brisk local competition rather than an extended mountain excursion.
The route incorporates cobblestones, road sections, woodland trails, and open fields, with its lowest elevation near 227 meters and its highest point just below 300 meters. The day also offers a 7 kilometer walk and races for children, establishing it as a community gathering as much as a competition for runners. The Sou des Ecoles de Pérouges / Bourg-Saint-Christophe is the organizing body, and the event has a limited history, with only a few previous editions.
