The Trail de Pignan begins at the Parc du Château in Pignan, a village in France's Hérault department. Held in late January, this trail running event offers multiple race formats. These range from a short children's run to longer off-road courses, alongside a non-timed hike for those preferring a walk over competition. The typical race options include distances of approximately 5 km, 12 km, 20 km, and 31 km, with the 20 km distance also available as a two-person team event.
The event utilizes the Château de Turenne area and its cellars as part of its staging, providing a distinct local atmosphere instead of a standard start. The 5 km race, known as La Pignanaise, features around 100 meters of elevation gain, while La Picholine is a 1.5 km option designed for children. Past event programs have featured names like La Gariguette and La Rougette for mid-distance races, indicating that the shorter formats carry some of Pignan's character. Now in its 17th edition, the variety of distances caters to beginners, club runners, families, hikers, and experienced trail runners seeking a substantial winter run.
