The Trail des Callunes begins and ends in Ban-de-Sapt, a small village in the southern Vosges, Grand Est region of France. This early February trail running event offers multiple distances, ranging from approximately 7 kilometers for entry-level participants to 26 or 33 kilometers for longer mountain routes. Specific races include La Callune Ouf (7 km), La Calunette (13 km), and La Fort'iche (26 km), with elevation gains from about 160 meters on the shortest course to around 850 meters on the 26 km route.
The routes traverse the natural terrain surrounding Ban-de-Sapt, presenting a day of hillside and forest trails rather than a flat road race. The 12 km option is noted as the most popular, attracting over 200 runners in a past edition, and the 26 km has also seen more than 100 participants. The event welcomes both beginners and experienced runners, fostering a friendly local atmosphere that encourages personal challenge without an exclusive elite feel.
