Trail des Ruines is a new trail-running event in Arlay, in the Jura region of eastern France. Its start village is set up for runners, hikers, families, and local supporters. It takes place in late September as part of the European Heritage Days. Two technical trail races of 12 km and 19 km are offered, along with a hiking route and a children's race. Entry requires registration, with base fees listed for the two races and the walk.
The routes guide runners through vineyard land and past the château. The trails are rough enough that local coverage calls the race a “leg-breaking” challenge. Five running friends created the project after two of them initially proposed the idea of a local trail, then formed the Trail des ruines association to manage the event. Local businesses and associations quickly offered support, and a portion of the profits will go to the Parents' Association for school projects. The start village provides food, drinks, and entertainment, making the day more than just a race bib and finish line.
