Trail du Mont Saint-Romain is a March trail-running event held in Cortambert, Saône-et-Loire, on the southern edge of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It features five distances: a 1.8 km children’s race, 11 km and 17 km trail options, and 30 km and 42 km routes. The 42 km race is a UTMB Index 50K event with 1,550 meters of elevation gain, presenting a mountain-style challenge rather than a straightforward run.
The courses traverse several local communes surrounding Mont Saint-Romain, offering views of eastern France’s landscapes. The event is organized by local rural associations from Cortambert, Donzy-le-Pertuis, Bray, Blanot, and Chissey-les-Mâcon, fostering a village-club atmosphere. The 42 km race attracts a focused field, with fewer than a hundred finishers in past results, and the leading runners typically finish in just over three hours.
