The Trail et marche des rois de Pouancé is a trail and walking event held in early January in Pouancé, located in Ombrée d'Anjou, Maine-et-Loire. The start sends participants down into the medieval castle at dusk. The main trail options are typically around 9 km and 18 km, with additional options for walking, Nordic walking, and a short children's race. Entries are limited to 500 participants. The event has an informal character: the organization does not provide timing, there is no official ranking, and no prizes are awarded.
The route crosses Pouancé and the surrounding countryside, incorporating the castle grounds, the narrow streets of the old walled town, and some private properties accessible only for the event. The longer trail includes a cut-off time: runners exceeding 1 hour 15 minutes for the initial lap are not permitted to begin the second. This is the event's eleventh edition. Organizers aim for minor adjustments each year, such as introducing new points of interest or unique pathways. Upon finishing, participants receive a simple, local reward: a slice of galette and a bowl of soup.
