The Trail Les Mathes - La Palmyre is a winter trail race held in Les Mathes, Charente-Maritime, France, utilizing the Atlantic coast and pine forests. Participants can select from 11 km, 25 km, or 50 km distances. A 10 km hike or walk is also available for those who prefer to enjoy the scenery without the competitive aspect of the longer races. The 11 km course is accessible, yet includes "casse-pattes" sections – short climbs, bumps, and false flats that challenge the legs. The 25 km requires more technical running and strategic pacing, while the 50 km extends into a demanding trail run with varied terrain and approximately 950 meters of elevation gain.
The course winds through the Forêt domaniale and the Forêt des Combots d’Ansoine, leading to dunes, sandy paths, coastal sections, and a beach passage. Runners will see views of the La Coubre lighthouse, the Baie de Bonne Anse, the village of Les Mathes, and the Côte Sauvage. Past events have attracted thousands of participants from the local area and beyond, including amateurs, club runners, seasoned trail athletes, and walkers, all converging at the event base. While aid stations and changing facilities are provided, the primary appeal lies in the forest trails, sand, coast, and sufficient uneven terrain to provide a genuine challenge even on the shorter routes.
