La Chouette Alleuzienne is a night trail race held near La Bazouge-des-Alleux in western France, put on by the local festival committee. Participants can select between 8 km and 16 km races. A 5.5 km night walk is also available for those seeking an after-dark outing without the competitive aspect. The event primarily uses paths, footpaths, and local trails, largely avoiding paved roads.
The course crosses private property, accessible only on race day, contributing to its unique, annual character. The 16 km race often sees close competition, with recent victors only establishing a lead in the final kilometers; the 8 km has also featured finishes decided by mere seconds. The terrain presents challenges, with past participants noting muddy conditions, uneven ground, and its utility as preparation for cross-country season. Following the race, participants receive a sausage snack and mulled wine at the village hall, a traditional French conclusion to a chilly night run.
