Treille en Côte Roannaise is a three-person team trail race through the vineyards of the Côte Roannaise, starting from Villemontais near the town hall and moving from village to village. It is connected to the local “Vignoble en scène” wine event, with local wine producers participating, so the day combines relay racing with a festival atmosphere instead of feeling like a standard road race.
The main relay, called “Treille en Côte Roannaise en Relais et assemblage,” runs in stages from Villemontais to St Alban les Eaux, then to St Haon-le-Châtel, and finally into Ambierle. The legs are uneven on purpose: the first is 13.24 km, the second is the longest at 16.23 km with 500 m of climbing, the third is 9.74 km, and the final Ambierle section changes length depending on the time cut-off. There is also a shorter “P’tite Treille” option starting in St Alban les Eaux.
