Ultra-Trail de l'île d'Oléron begins at the citadel in Le Château-d'Oléron, sending runners on a 100 km loop around the entire island. The race accommodates various ways to cover the distance: solo runners complete the full 100 km, pairs divide it as a duo, and four-person teams run a 4x25 km relay. High interest led to entries selling out quickly, with additional places subsequently opened; the event includes 3,558 runners across all formats.
The route crosses all eight communes on Oléron, offering a full-island tour instead of a short out-and-back trail race. The citadel also serves as the event base, hosting the exhibitor village, food service, and activities from Friday to Sunday for participants, their families, and visitors. Local Oléron organizations, including the ports office, the island and Marennes basin tourist office, and the local community authority, organize the event.
