Via romana - Carpineto 2026

Via Romana Carpineto, a trail event held in late July in Carpineto, Haute-Corse, offers races and walks from approximately 12-13 km to 62 km. The primary long-distance option is the Via Romana Endurance, approximately 50 km with about 2,760 m of elevation gain, supported by five aid stations and a 11-hour time limit. This 50 km race can also be completed as a three-person relay. The shorter 22 km route includes about 1,500 m of climbing, and the 12 km route has approximately 600 m of ascent. The long race is designated for runners aged 21 and older, holds ITRA mountain and finisher ratings, and is included in France's National League trail circuit. The course crosses the Orezza region within Corsica's Regional Natural Park, utilizing old mule tracks connecting villages over the hills. Participants will run through chestnut woods, ancient oaks, past springs and fountains, and move between locations such as Piedipartinu, Pied'Orezza, Campodonicu, Campana, Petricaghju, Verdese, Erbaghju, Nocariu, and Polveroso. The route also leads runners by 17th-century Baroque churches, 12th-century Romanesque chapels, the chapel of Saint Christophe, and the Convent of Orezza, which is associated with early texts on modern democratic thought. With around 150 participants in the long race during a recent edition, the event has the feel of a challenging regional mountain race rather than a large, crowded competition.
