The Winter Spartan Race de Valmorel places Spartan obstacles on the snowy slopes of Valmorel, a ski resort in the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie. This winter obstacle race features a 5 km Sprint with 20 obstacles and a 10 km Super with 25. The format requires running speed, cold-weather resilience, climbing, crawling, jumping, and sufficient technique to maintain momentum on uphill or slippery sections. Failing an obstacle incurs a 30 burpee penalty, making precise execution as important as overall fitness.
The course utilizes mountain terrain, snow, elevation changes, and Alpine views instead of a flat park or city circuit. Valmorel was the first Tarentaise resort to host a significant winter running event, and Spartan designates this as its sole winter race format. Participants include regular Spartan racers, newcomers, and individuals seeking the unique Valmorel medal; over 10,000 finishers have received medals here since the event's inception. Post-race, the venue transforms into a resort party with refreshments, merchandise, celebratory shouts, and dancing.
