Winter Trail d'Alix is a February trail race based in Alix, a village in the Rhône department north of Lyon. All races start from Place de la Mairie, with three distances: 9 km with 150 m of climbing, 18 km with 300 m, and 27 km with 450 m. Each distance can be run solo or as a pair, and the duo rule is simple: start together, finish together. The series is on its sixth edition, so it still feels like a local race rather than a huge festival.
The routes use forest paths for about 80 percent of the course, with stony sections and mud when the weather turns wet. The courses cross and rejoin each other, passing through woods, vineyards, and meadows around Alix. Runners need a PPS or FFA license, and they also need to bring their own cup or bottle because the aid stations do not provide cups. After the race, the village side of the event continues with a bar before and after the run, plus a reserved lunch that can be eaten on site or taken away.
