Zinzin Ultra-Trail, or ZUT, begins in Florac, within the Cévennes National Park in Lozère, southern France. It is an annual trail-running event offering four main races: a 160 km ultra covering 6,500 m of elevation gain, a 70 km Trail des Steppes with 2,500 m of climbing, a 14 km Trail des Corniches featuring 700 m of ascent, and La Coulée de Rochefort, a 1.5 km vertical race gaining 500 m. Children's races are also included, showing the event caters to more than just the longest distances.
The courses traverse the rugged, open landscapes near Florac, such as the Gorges du Tarn and Causse Méjean, with the 70 km route connecting the three rivers of Florac-Trois-Rivières. Lozère, France's least populated department, is predominantly mountainous with rivers and forests, contributing to the race's remote feel even within trail running. The 160 km and 70 km events can be completed solo or as a pair, and ZUT serves as a UTMB World Series qualifier. A local tradition adds character to the vertical kilometer: historically, finishers received a drink from the mayor; today, a refreshment stop remains on the climb.
