The Ben Nevis Race sends runners up and down Britain’s highest mountain above Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. It is 14 km with 1,340 m of climb, making it a demanding mountain run rather than a quick trail race. Its 1:00 p.m. start gives the day a distinct afternoon rhythm. The Skyline race extends this concept: 29 km, over 1,900 m of climbing, and technical ridge terrain in the style of skyrunning.
The hill race focuses on the direct challenge of ascending Ben Nevis and returning, with the descent frequently noted as particularly rugged. The Skyline route begins on wider forestry tracks, then proceeds toward the CIC Hut before passing under the mountain and onto the Ben Nevis skyline, the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arete, and Aonach Mòr. These races attract mountain runners accustomed to steep ascents, exposed terrain, and difficult descents. The Skyline event has seen enough demand to sell out as part of the Salomon Golden Trail Series.
