The Birkenhead Park 5 Mile is an evening road race in Birkenhead, Merseyside, starting from St Mary's Cricket Club at 7:00pm. It has run every year since 1972, with a measured 5-mile course, chip timing for all runners, and a 1-mile kids' fun run earlier in the evening at 6:00pm.
The route is built around laps, with a water station on each lap. The event maintains a club-race atmosphere while offering incentives: cash prizes go to the top three men and women, and £100 is available for a new course record in either race. Finishers receive a memento, professional photos are free, and the setting is noteworthy: Birkenhead Park was designed by Joseph Paxton, influenced New York's Central Park, and includes landmarks such as the Grand Entrance, the Roman Boathouse, and the Swiss Bridge, the only traditional wooden covered bridge of its kind in the UK.
