Chopwell Woods Christmas Trail Runs are festive trail races held in a 360-hectare mixed woodland on the edge of Gateshead. The event takes place on the last weekend before Christmas. It includes a 1 Mile race for children aged 3-11, a 4 Mile race for runners aged 11 and over, and an 8 Mile race for runners aged 16 and over. The 1 Mile starts first in the morning, followed by the 4 Mile and then the 8 Mile. The longer races use live chip timing provided by Timing Up North.
The setting is Chopwell Woods, a Forestry England-managed woodland that also hosted the organiser's first event. The day is designed for families and trail runners alike: an adult can run free with a child in the Family 1 Mile, and the event is canicross friendly, with one controlled dog allowed per runner. Finishers in the 4 Mile and 8 Mile races receive a medal, event merchandise, mince pies, chocolates, and a drink. Family 1 Mile finishers get a medal, drink, and selection box. Parking is free but limited, so runners are encouraged to walk or car share.
