The Cybi Coastal Marathon begins and ends at the Holyhead RNLI station on Holy Island, off Anglesey in Wales. This late-summer coastal trail marathon covers 26.2 miles, with a limited field of approximately 200 participants and a Cybi 25K run offered concurrently. This is not a road marathon; runners will navigate paths, tracks, beaches, coastline, and muddy terrain if the weather deteriorates, making trail shoes highly advisable.
The course traces the Ynys Cybi coastal path, a segment of the Welsh Coastal Path, passing through Penrhos, Silver Bay, Rhoscolyn, and Trearddur Bay. It incorporates nature reserves, sandy beaches, open coastal areas, and mountain sections before the final ascent of Mynydd Twr. The 25K follows a comparable route but diverges from Penrhos towards Trearddur Bay before merging with the more challenging final section. The concluding four miles are frequently identified as the most demanding, positioning this as a race for those seeking challenging trail-marathon terrain over a course conducive to quick personal bests.
