The Lake District Running Festival's longest event is the Grasmere 24 Hour Ultra, which challenges runners to complete as many laps as possible of a 5km course around Grasmere before the 24-hour limit expires. This two-day festival features way-marked trail running and Nordic walking routes within the Lake District National Park, focusing on areas around Grasmere and Rydal Water. Saturday's schedule includes 5.7km, 10km, and 17km trail runs, alongside a 10km Nordic walk. Sunday features a 42km trail marathon.
The 24-hour ultra is open to solo runners and teams of up to four, with a single team member running at any given time. The festival is designed for diverse participation, not solely for competitive racers. Younger participants can join a 1-mile Fun Run for children under 12, while those under 5 can take part in the Teddy Dash accompanied by a teddy bear or other soft toy. OMM Lite Adventure Race events are also held concurrently. On-site amenities include camping, retail stalls, talks, workshops, a bar, and food services, encouraging attendees to remain at the festival site throughout the event.
