The Maverick Dark Hampshire Gravel Run is a headtorch trail race held in Alice Holt Forest, situated on the border of Hampshire and Surrey within the South Downs National Park. The event is structured around a 5 km night loop, allowing participants to complete one, two, or three laps for distances of 5 km, 10 km, or 15 km respectively. The elevation gain is moderate yet present, increasing from 69 m for a single lap to 194 m over the course of three laps.
The course navigates wide forest tracks and tree-lined paths through old woodland, reaching a specific checkpoint once per lap. This aid station provides sweet and savoury snacks, Precision Hydration fuel, electrolytes, and self-serve water barrels; participants must bring their own reusable cup or bottle. The route is marked and timed, with results posted online, along with photography services, a bag drop, complimentary parking, and refreshments available at the finish line. Restrictions include a ban on dogs and headphones, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
