The Midwinter Mortimer Trail Run uses the Mortimer Trail in the border country of England and Wales, between Ludlow in Shropshire and Kington in Herefordshire. It is the winter counterpart to the Midsummer Mortimer Trail, offering two mixed-terrain options: an ultra of approximately 30 miles and the Croft Half.
The ultra begins at Ludlow Castle and crosses the Marches of England via trail, forest tracks, and road. The course incorporates ridges, hills, valleys, woodlands, limestone uplands, and pastureland within countryside historically controlled by the medieval Mortimer family. The Croft Half starts at Rivers and follows the latter half of the ultra route, providing runners the final section of the same trail without the full 30-mile length.
