The Morland 'Marathon' Trail Ultra is a 30-mile off-road race starting and finishing in Morland, a village near Penrith in Cumbria. It exceeds the distance of a road marathon, featuring approximately 3000 ft of elevation gain, and is open to both runners and walkers. The event commences in the morning with a 12-hour cut-off, accommodating participants who prefer a steady pace as well as those competing. The route is fully tracked, holds an ARC permit, and provides four aid stations.
The course crosses the Eden Valley, with the Pennines to the east and the Howgills to the south, extending to the boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Underfoot conditions are varied, predominantly trail, passing stone circles, waterfalls, low fells, cairns, rivers, meadows, and historic villages. Solo participants and relay teams are welcome. Trophies are awarded to the first male, female, and non-binary finishers, alongside veteran categories starting from 50 years. All finishers receive a medal, with optional purchases of a finisher's buff or tree planting via Trees Not Tees.
