From the market town of Otley in West Yorkshire, the Otley High Views Trail Race & Ultramarathon sends solo runners onto high ground above Lower Wharfedale. Punk Panther UltraMarathons organises the event, which runs in early summer and offers four trail options: 21 km, 32 km, 51 km, and 80 km, roughly matching a half marathon, 20-mile race, 34-mile ultra, and 50-mile ultra. It also sits in the Punk Panther Race Series and is in the UTMB Index Races, so it draws runners who want a measured trail challenge as well as a local day out on the hills.
The route is built around the highest points near Otley, with Otley Chevin, Lindley Moor, Rombalds Ilkley Moor, and Beamsley Beacon among the main climbs and checkpoints of the landscape. The longest course climbs about 2100 metres, while one listed race format covers just over 25 miles with around 900 metres of ascent and two aid stations. Field size is modest, around 300 participants, which gives it more of a focused trail-race feel than a city mass start. The appeal is straightforward: steady climbing, open views across Wharfedale, and enough distance choices for both strong trail runners and ultramarathoners.
