Slate Trail Ultra is a two-distance trail ultra based at Porth Penrhyn in Bangor, using the Snowdonia Slate Trail in North Wales. The longer race is 147 km with more than 3,900 metres of climbing, an early morning start, a 36-hour cut-off, eight aid stations, and drop bag support. The shorter race is 80 km with more than 2,300 metres of climbing, a morning start, a 24-hour cut-off, and four aid stations.
The 147 km option follows the full Snowdonia Slate Trail and counts for UTMB points, while the 80 km race uses selected highlights of the same trail and also offers UTMB points. APEX Running organises the event, and the race leans into the slate history of the region rather than treating the route as just a mountain run. The result is a long, hilly Welsh trail event built around quarries, heritage paths, aid-station planning, and a firm time limit.
