The St Valentine's 30K is a 30-kilometre road race in Stamford, organized by Stamford Striders and held around Valentine's Day. It begins at Stamford Welland Academy at 11:00, offering spring marathon trainees a demanding mid-training test instead of a relaxed long run. Participants are drawn by the challenging distance, numerous hills, and the potential for weather to transform the event into a significant assessment of pacing, gear, and resilience.
The initial kilometers descend, potentially encouraging a rapid start, but this is countered by a sustained climb nearing 18 miles from the finish. The event attracts club runners, those aiming for marathons, individuals new to this distance, and athletes using it to gauge their preparation for major spring marathons like London, Manchester, or Boston. A Valentine's theme is present with Love Heart distance markers and encouraging messages. Past challenging editions have featured flooded sections, sleet, snow, severe cold, and even instances where Stamford Striders volunteers redirected water to reveal potholes.
