The Chase Trail Run begins and ends at Salisbury Racecourse, located approximately three miles from Salisbury city centre. This trail race series offers 10k, half marathon, and marathon distances, and is approaching its sixth year. Using the racecourse as a base simplifies logistics compared to many rural trail events, providing indoor facilities, permanent restrooms, hot showers, and ample hard-standing parking.
All race distances feature similar terrain: rolling downland, historic drove roads once used for livestock transport, grassy field edges, woodland trails, and the ancient turf of Martin Down Nature Reserve. The marathon presents the greatest challenge with around 625m of elevation gain, followed by the half marathon at 329m, and the 10k at 133m. The landscape inspired the organiser to establish races in this location, with the courses designed around the chalk downland trails that characterize this part of Wiltshire as ideal for running.
