The Winter Wirral Ultra is a 37-mile ultra marathon held on the Wirral Peninsula. It begins and concludes at Hooton Memorial Hall, situated near the terminus of the Wirral Way. This event takes place in November and is characterized as a predominantly flat winter ultra, featuring approximately 821 feet of elevation gain over the entire circuit. The course accommodates a variety of participants, including road runners, trail runners, walkers, seasoned ultra runners, and individuals new to the ultra distance.
The route traces the Wirral Circular Trail in an anticlockwise direction. The initial segment covers about 12 miles along a disused railway path, transitioning thereafter to coastal paths encircling the peninsula. The concluding 12 miles retrace the Wirral Way. The event provides five aid stations, a 12-hour time limit, GPS tracking, and supplementary waymarking, though participants are responsible for a portion of the navigation.
