The Wold Rangers Way Ultra begins and ends at Field House Camping & Coffee Barn, near Tibthorpe in North Yorkshire. Runners start at 8:00 am on a circular ultra covering approximately 50 to 52 km. Held in April, the course follows the Wolds Rangers Way through the Yorkshire Wolds, featuring 2,900 ft of ascent and a 12-hour time limit. The event is limited to 200 participants and consistently sells out, giving it the feel of a small local ultra rather than a large mass-start race.
The route is marked and primarily utilizes green lanes and bridleways across open farmland, chalkland, and dry valleys. The terrain is rolling and demanding, yet not overly technical, making it suitable for strong first-time ultrarunners and those aiming for a fast finish. Four indoor checkpoints offer toilets, and live GPS tracking is provided by Open Tracking. Free downloadable race photos are available, with tea or coffee and cake at the finish. The event emphasizes low-waste practices: finishers can opt for an eco-wooden medal, a handmade wildflower seed medal, or forgo a medal entirely, resulting in three trees being planted. Podium trophies are crafted from reclaimed Yorkshire Wolds waymark posts. A portion of each entry fee, £4, supports local charities.
