Berignone Crossing begins in Piazza di Mazzolla, Volterra, within the province of Pisa, Tuscany, directing runners into the Berignone reserve situated between Volterra and Pomarance. The event features four distances: a 52 km ultra trail covering 1,800 meters of elevation gain, a 32 km trail with 1,200 meters, a 20 km race with 800 meters, and a 15 km walk with 400 meters. The longest race starts early in the morning, with the 32 km and 20 km races following, and the walk commencing after its briefing.
The course crosses over two thousand hectares of protected land, designated as a European Special Conservation Area. The terrain has wooded hills, with Monte Soldano located within the reserve. Streams flow through the landscape before the Cecina river crosses a portion of it. Two notable locations, Masso delle Fanciulle and Masso degli Specchi, offer natural blue-green pools. A.S.D. Atletica Volterra is the organizing body. Bib pickup is available in Mazzolla on the afternoon prior to the event and on race morning, with awards presented in the afternoon.
