Tre Valli Varesine gets its name from three valleys in Italy’s Varese province: Valcuvia, Valganna, and Valceresio. The main event is a men’s one-day road cycling race in the same province, and it sits on the UCI ProSeries calendar. It also belongs to the Trittico Lombardo with Coppa Agostoni and Coppa Bernocchi, so it is part of a small Lombardy set rather than a stand-alone local race.
The race has been run since the early twentieth century, with Pietro Bestetti winning the first edition. Almost every edition has used the normal road-race format; the major exception was a 100 km time trial won by Fausto Coppi. A women’s elite race now runs alongside the men’s event. The winners list is heavy with Italian cycling names, including Bartali, Coppi, Magni, Moser, Saronni, Bugno, Chiappucci, and Nibali.
