The Trail degli Eroi is a mountain running series held on Monte Grappa, beginning in Seren del Grappa, northern Italy. These races are situated in the Venetian Prealps, located between the Venetian plain and the higher Alpine regions. The Brenta River defines the west flank of the massif, while the Piave River runs along the east. The event offers various distances, including the Family degli Eroi and Downhill degli Eroi, alongside the Sky, Trail, and Ultra races. The longer distances cover approximately 46 to 65 km with several thousand meters of elevation gain. The Sky degli Eroi, a shorter version of the main event, measures about 27 km with 1,700 m of elevation gain.
The race's character is shaped by Monte Grappa's history, particularly its role during wartime, as much as by the physical challenge. Runners traverse mountain trails that served as trenches in World War I, on a massif deeply connected to Italian resistance efforts. The primary Trail degli Eroi typically spans 46 to 47 km, while the Ultra extends into a more demanding day with approximately 4,470 m of elevation gain. Hundreds of participants are drawn to the combination of steep terrain, ridgelines, forest paths, and the distinct atmosphere of competing in a location where the landscape itself conveys a historical narrative.
