Trail del Marrone is a short-to-medium trail race in the Tuscan-Romagna hills near Castel del Rio, close to Bologna. Participants can select between 12K and 22K distances. The longer 22K race involves climbing and descending 1,150 meters across a compact, demanding course. This solo 22K event is limited to 300 participants, has a 5-hour time limit, and includes two aid stations.
The route crosses the chestnut woods characteristic of the region, utilizing mule tracks, single-track paths, and brief sections of paved road. The 22K holds ITRA Mountain Level 5 and Finisher Level 10 status, and is part of both the National League and the Bologna Trail Series. The appeal of this race lies in its blend of steep local terrain, forest trails, and an intimate mountain-racing atmosphere, rather than solely its distance.
