Trofeo Kima

Trofeo Kima is a high-altitude skyrunning race in Val Masino, Italy’s Sondrio province, held every other August along the Sentiero Roma. It is a loop starting from Filorera, covering about 52 kilometres with over 4,200 metres of elevation gain, and is classified under Sky Extreme skyrunning, distinct from ordinary trail running. The participant field is limited and competitive; a recent edition received approximately 2,000 applications for 400 available spots, attracting runners from 27 countries. The course proceeds counter-clockwise over challenging Alpine terrain: seven mountain passes, moraines, snowfields, exposed ridgelines, and sections with fixed ropes. The leading runners complete it in around six and a half hours, indicating the route's technical difficulty. Entry is intended for experienced mountain athletes, with reserved places for Grigne Skymarathon finishers and ITRA points required for other applicants. The race also holds personal significance, honoring Pierangelo Marchetti, known as “Kima,” a Valtellina mountain guide who perished during a rescue operation.
